Jennifer Bronson, PhD

Jennifer Bronson, PhD is a Medical Sociologist with 20 years of experience in research, statistics, and program evaluation at the intersection of behavioral health and criminal justice involvement. Throughout her career, Jennifer has worked closely with the Department of Justice, the National Institutes of Health, state agencies, and community groups to improve their justice and/or behavioral health data, collect and analyze data, and implement research and evaluation studies. Her research provides support for correctional and community-based health programming and policy and improves law enforcement crisis responses.

She brings multi-sector experience that spans federal government, state government, academia, and consulting. These opportunities afford her a deep understanding of how research, evaluations, and programming is conducted, funded, and prioritized across different stakeholders. Prior to joining Capstone Solutions, she was the Criminal Justice Program Director at Abt Global where she led a $22 million portfolio of 11 criminal justice projects and 50+ staff. Due to her leadership and strategic planning, the division increased sales by 136% in less than one year. As Senior Director of NRI’s Mental Health & Criminal Justice Research Center she oversaw a fledgling center and effectively expanded the number of research projects from 3 to 10 and tripled sales in three years. From 2014-2019, she was a Statistician at the Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) where she authored or co-authored eight widely cited BJS reports and was the agency representative to the 2015 U.S. Congressional Heroin Taskforce.
Jennifer is a longtime, active member of the American Public Health Association (APHA) through which she has co-chaired a gun violence prevention workgroup since 2013, held elected positions, was named a student and senior fellow, and received the Maternal and Child Health Young Professional of the Year Award in 2017. Dr. Bronson has over 50 publications on health, criminal justice, violence, and African American history. She has a PhD from Howard University and an MS and BS from Virginia Commonwealth University.
